Tiger Arena

Tiger Arena

Tiger Arena, locally called as “Ho Quyen”, is a royal arena, which is similar to a much smaller version of the Colosseum in Rome and was also used for blood sports. Beginning in the 1830s, the emperors, royal families and mandarins used to congregate here to view contests between elephants and tigers. However, as the elephant was the imperial symbol, the tigers were often declawed or defanged so that the elephants could always be victorious. This might be a rarely visited site but a top spot for those looking beyond the normal tourist trails.
